FM - Brad Brown

brad brownBrad Brown
Local co-host of Some Call It Folk

Most kids growing up in Houston, Texas, probably grew to love country music or hard rock. Brad Brown followed a quieter path, listening to public radio and picking up blue grass music from distant stations on the if the weather was right. He learned to play guitar by "picking" with the neighbors, who had a family type band that played traditional and folk music. It was Peter Paul and Mary, Dylan, Mommas and Pappas, and Townes Van Zandt. That early love of folk music never faded.

Brad has been associated with the Corpus Christi folk music community since 1988. As a solo acoustic music and folk singer, it didn't take Brad long to discover Some Call it Folk on KEDT-FM. Brad is a serious student of folk and Americana music, and seeks out live folk music whenever he can. In his travels from Austin to Boston to Nova Scotia, Brad has discovered a host of folk musicians that he feels need to be heard on SOME CALL IT FOLK. As a listener to SCIF for as long as the program has aired, Brad was excited to be offered a chance to co-host the show along with Pam Stakes, who has provided years of energy and consistency to the program.

Brad's segments will include local talent, as well as the current favorites in the folk arena. He solicits and receives CDs from artists all over Texas and will play tracks that fit the format. As a strong supporter of live music himself, Brad's program often includes 'live' recordings, something many radio stations will not play.

He also includes a smattering of blue-grass, and "old-school" folk every week.

Brad is an investment representative with a major brokerage firm, and lives and works in Portland, Texas. He can often be found performing in South Texas as a solo artist or playing with his acoustic-trio, Buck Two 98. He also sings in the choir at First Christian Church in Portland, Texas.
